FOTA Fans Forum, REcon and iPhone 4!

I’m not great at this Blog stuff…ultimately there just isn’t that much interesting stuff going on what with working full time and everything. However, there are two things that I’m attending soon that may be of more general interest: the FOTA Fans Forum in London (powered by Santander) and REcon 2010 in Montreal.

The Fans Forum is an opportunity for F1 fans like myself to put questions to current representatives of the teams and hopefully exchange some ideas. I managed to get a ticket so will be heading up to London on Thursday to attend and will, hopefully, be able to post some interesting stuff as it happens and in a wash up afterwards.

REcon is a computer security conference being held in Montreal, Canada next week and consists of a single track of presentations over three days. In addition, they are holding a number of training sessions early in the week covering a multitude of subjects. I will be attending a training session with Rolf Rolles titled Binary Literacy: Static Reverse Engineering, which should leave me with a much better way of dealing with assembly code, at least in my own head.

Finally, I picked up a shiny new iPhone 4 this week after a sweltering 3.5 hour queue outside of my local O2 shop. Impressions to follow…if I keep up the posting!

im a professional…

Today the British Computer Society accepted my upgrade request from a Student Member to a full Professional Member of the society. Being a Professional Member gives me the ability to use the post-nominal MBCS, but that is not the reason I decided to keep up my membership. Being a part of the society provides a number of benefits including access to online resources, recognition of commitment to professional standards, networking and continuing professional development.

That final one is the big thing, and through the BCS I can work towards becoming a Chartered IT Professional (CITP) and Chartered Engineer (CEng) – a sign of experience and commitment to the highest level of professional standards (something that historically has been missing in the industry). I will soon be joining the Chartership scheme at work and begin working through and towards the requirements of CITP and CEng – a long road, but well worth the effort.

back

I’m back, after deciding to rebuild my VPS as it was stuffed full of software I wasn’t using and a pain in the backside to admin. Nice shiny Ubuntu Server deployment in its place. Probably won’t be much here as I work full time now, but you never know.
